Chrishawn Marie Young
Chrishawn Marie Young is a dynamic higher educational administrator leveraging extensive experience in teaching and curriculum development to build high-achieving academic programs that engage and elevate students from diverse communities. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Chrishawn navigated attending more than two public schools per academic year, up until her senior year in high school. As a result of experiencing an unstable home environment, Chrishawn eventually obtained her GED before going off to attend Central State University in Wilberforce OH, an HBCU as a first-generation college student.
After graduating from Central State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio TV and Journalism, Chrishawn then moved to Chicago, IL as a single parent where she took her first job at the Jerry Springer Show. Chrishawn eventually shifted her career towards education after obtaining a Master of Art in English Literature from the Chicago State University.
For over 20 years, Chrishawn has been a dedicated Higher-Ed leader, gifted at unifying opportunities and aligning resources to enable transformative change in higher education that empowers students to achieve their academic goals. Chrishawn is currently the Director of Student Activities and an English Professor at Malcolm X College, one of the 7 City Colleges of Chicago. Within this role, she currently oversees the Malcolm X College Student Government Association, who under her leadership, served as primary contributors to the conference presentation.
